Self identity determines many things in life, particularly the type of career that you will pursue. However, self identity can be very fluid and changing for some people, so one can never truly know oneself. However, if you are considering becoming a teacher it is very important that you have an idea of who you are. You will most definitely come across many confused kids and youth who are looking for a place to belong and will trust in you for answers. Teachers can have a huge impact and therefore have a lot of responsibility on this area of self discovery. It is important for teachers to be grounded and know who they are and where they stand (to some degree) prior to going into the profession.

Once you have somewhat of a clear idea of who you are and why you want to pursue the teaching profession, then you will have the opportunity to build on your identity as a teacher as you gain more experience and confidence through the years.
