48 States, including Illinois, disenfranchise ex-felons and prevent them from being able to vote.
It's based on an interpretation of an obscure clause from the 14th Amendment, that punished states who didn't allow everyone to vote, but made an exception if the loss of voting was based on felony status. Since the constitution allows felony disenfranchisement without representative penalty, it was held to allow states to bar felons from voting entirely.

One of the punishments from a felonious conviction is the removal of the right to vote. See the United States Constitution for the reasons.

They do all the time, and they are a significant part of the democrat base of support. Even, and especially, after they are dead...
Why should people who have shown complete disregard for our laws and our freedom, have a voice in selecting the very people who will write and interpret the laws that seek to govern this country?

i don't know about chicago but Washington state will restore voting rights to felons when they have fulfilled all obligations of their sentencing. example, served full sentence, completed parole or probation, and paid in full any fines... maybe illinois does not have that policy..
