I believe that you can carry a rifle or shotgun without a permit but you need one to carry a handgun in your car. The rifle/shotgun has to be secured or in a case in plain view. I am not 100% sure but I think this is the basics of this law.

It has to be concealed and unloaded. You can have a gun in your glove box with the clip next to it for example.

clip out of gun and in trunk,gun lock,better if nice cop,or it could get ugly
