Hey. I'm taking a Mental Health course and we have to do these little bib card thingys on what we are talking about in class -- my question is: which anxiety defense mechanism would you attribute the majority of gossip, too (hurtful, mean gossip). I'm think "devaluation" ..sometimes can be projection, too, but has anyone studied this topic? Thanks :).

Well, I agree that it could be projection in that they likely feel very insecure about themselves so they put their own insecurities on others, but in that sense, you could also call it deflection as they are redirecting attention to someone else to avoid scrutiny of themselves by others. However, I'm not sure about devaluation as that is the individual dealing with emotional conflict or internal or external stressors by attributing exaggerated negative qualities to self or others; I suppose it could be devaluation, but I would go with the two I mentioned first before that. You could likely fit a few more in there as well. I have provided a website for you to review to determine that for yourself.

All gossip stems from an unrevealed concern! Gossipers attempt to ease down a hidden concern of society or human beings round them, so that they attempt to offend using gossip, for they are unable to make an overt attack! they are called "covert hostility" human beings. for sure this does no longer embody a familiar or pleasant gossip ; we mean genuine gossipers with limitless gossip : journalists, a "authentic" buddy, (legal experts, psychologists.).! Ciao......John-John.
