Honda mean to be driven hard, it would hurt your engine if you shift at a very low RPM (2000). And from 3000 - 6000, it would be your call. I ususally shift at 4000-5000 RPM and if I want to go fast, I push it till the red line, but remember, do not go over the red line for more than 30 sec-1 minutes. The CPU will shut off the gas, last time this happen, I need a new fuel pump. So just be careful with that.

Basically you just listen to the engine. When it starts to sound like it is running fast shift. Shift before it starts to sound like it is straining. For gas mileage and less wear on the engine, you should shift as soon as you can without the engine lugging or choking out. Experiment, but do not run it up too high before shifting this is not good for the engine.

Check your owners manual, the answer should be in there. Or call a dealership and ask to speak with a technician.

It's one of those things that you just "know". When your driving around you'll feel your car is hesitating a little and you'll know you have to shift.
