Hey. I'm taking a Mental Health course and we have to do these little bib card thingys on what we are talking about in class -- my question is: which anxiety defense mechanism would you attribute the majority of gossip, too (hurtful, mean gossip). I'm think "devaluation" ..sometimes can be projection, too, but has anyone studied this topic? Thanks :).

Anxiety Causes

Like other complex medical illnesses, such as heart disease and diabetes, the exact causes of generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, are difficult to explain. Research suggests that environmental and genetic factors (a family history of GAD) may make a person more likely to develop the disorder.

Experts also agree that GAD may be caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain. In particular, two neurotransmitters (chemical message carriers), called dopamine and serotonin, are believed to regulate mood and behavior. Depression and/or other anxiety disorders are also common in people with GAD. ^

All gossip stems from an unrevealed fear! Gossipers try to ease down a hidden fear
of society or people around them, so they attempt to offend using gossip, for they are
unable to make an overt attack! They are called "covert hostility" people.
Of course this does not embrace a typical or friendly gossip ; we mean real gossipers
with endless gossip : journalists, a "true" friend, (lawyers, psychologists.).!

Ciao......John-John.
