That's a question that's up for interpretation, but historically it seems that it depends on the artist's preference. For example, Michelangelo and Rapheal both made beautiful sculptures of David. Then again artists like Titian and Ingres did paintings considered "academic nudes" which were based on mythology. These were popular with 15th and 16th century noblemen because it allowed them to admire the female form in their homes under the guise of academia. While modern artists like Picasso, Matisse, and Gauguin were all associated with a style called "Primitivism" (This term is no longer used). They appreciated how the women existed in their natural state. So trends, and styles, and ideas have come and gone, but what really matters is the preference of the artist or viewer.

It is generally considered that the female nude is more beautiful than the male counterpart - this may stem from the fact that generally, the male external genitalia gives problems for both the sculptor and often the viewer and also that it is more acceptable to place the female form in artistic poses rather than the more 'traditional' masculine stances.

God made both male and female pleasant to look at and functional in form and purpose. How can we say that what God has created is anything but beautiful?

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. A nude male can be very sensual. the sleek body, eye color. shiny hair and sexy smile .the Way he poses and the way the eyes seem to pierce right through you. A naked female is beauty. sexual also. for the same reasons as man.everyone looks and sees beauty in their own way(s).

It depends on the time frame and the critics of that time. While most of history has shown that the female form was more idolized the Greek times focused much more on the male form. It all depends on the speculation of those that observe and criticize art.

Beauty is in the "I" of the beholder.

The nude male?? yeah, right.
The male body is great, but then you get to the mushy part in the middle, which it always IS mushy, and it takes away from the beauty fo the lines. Sorry, guys.
Female body is easier to look at.

Its all in the eye of the beholder what is magically beautiful to some is disgustingly loathing to others. Hence individuality.
