Of course, I don't like very selfish people.
But let's be honest for a moment (only a moment, if we can).
Aren't there times when almost everyone (except for the saints and angels amongst us) when we are all guilty of being very selfish - of thinking only what is best for ourselves? I think if we look at the idea honestly and truly, we will find the answer is yes. I won't be hypocrite and say I am never selfish.
The only thing is to try to curb this tendency by being aware of it and trying our best to think of others. This is why we have the saying "love thy neighbor as thyself" so we can remember to be as good and kind to our neighbor as we would be to ourselves.

I have found that selfishness is generally the result of a deprived personality. People will normally try to share with others and be a part of the larger group, largerly due to the desire for acceptance. But the selfish person was not given the opportunity to be concerned with the group at large but was forced to tend or care for themselves. Probably more from childhood, but I have seen two instances where once non-selfish people became far more self centered as adults. In both cases marriage was to blame. A demanding or disinterested spouse can push a person to more self-centered thinking and habits.

Once I find out someone is selfish (usually through their actions) I get them out of my life as soon as possible. I'm a very free-hearted person and I can't stand people that think only about themselves and no one else. What's even worse is that these people want everyone else to think about them too. They could all move away to their own little Selfish Island for all I care.

I don't have a high opinion of them...they tend to be people I try to stay away from...but everyone has to have some little bit of selfishness in order to be able to survive in this world...so those I think more selfish aren't necessarily so in anyone elses eyes...

I try to avoid them, but I understand them. We live in a hyper competitive society, and if you fail to be selfish, you might end up with nothing, because all of the selfish people took everything.

Selfish people are truely to be admonished but one should always exercise the compassion to look into what deprivations they have suffered in life that have made them so posessive and greedy.
