Pole to Pole, if it means cutting through the earth. That eliminates the need to around the globe from pole to pole. I'm almost 100% sure it's shorter that way.

The pole to pole distance is the shorter distance (the Earth bulges out slightly at the equator because of its spin). However, I don't know "by how much shorter".

You might be able to get a rough calculation by looking up on google what the Earth's circumference is at the Equator; and then maybe calculate a distance from a pole to a point on the Equator, and multiply that by 4.
