A good question, but a complicated situation. I think much of the problem is socialogical. Many Native American communities are stuck in a cycle. Many don't work because they can survive on the small amount they receive from the government, drug and alcohol problems are rampant, education is not a priority and schools are substandard. The youth grow up and repeat the cycle set forth by their parents...sound familiar....these are the same factors which occur in the inner city ghettos and for many of the poor in this country. This is not a problem just of the government...but society and is not limited to the Navajo tribe. These cycles must be broken.

think on this for a sec. we slaughtered most of these poor people, men, women and children, and stuck the survivors in concentration camps (reservations). i'm thinking they probably don't need any more of our kind of help.

Why should they do much at all? Native american tribes have alot of benefits and opportunities for them already-- free college, welfare, etc. etc. Many tribes in AZ are making money thru agriculture, gambling halls/casinos, etc.

Question is, what are Navajo tribes doing for themselves???
