It's all got to do with the temperature of the air inside the basketball itself. When the air molecules inside the ball are warmer, they are more active, making the ball bounce higher. The cooler the air inside the ball, the less active the molecules, making it bounce not so high. But I find that if you pump the ball up at the place you're going to use it, instead of pumping it up before you go, the ball will bounce better.

Two reasons
1: the air pressure drops in the ball with temperature
2: the cold makes the casing less flexible

cold air--- contracts=

you can leave your ball in the car in the summer and it really bounces.

you can also warm your ball up in the microwave if you dont have a pump. not a flat one, just one that needs warmer air,.

dont do it for too long.

because the colder chemicals make the ball actually go slower like when u swim in cold water u dont go as fast as warm water

Because the rubber is colder, thus not as elastic as it would be in hot weather.
