I have all the respect in the world for the late great Walter Payton but I believe that Jim Brown was the greatest running back in NFL history and Dick Butkus was the toughest football player ever as far as defense goes.

It really depends on what poition you are taling about. I would say it is not Bo however. For running backs (like Payton was) you cant forget Jim Brown, Tony Dorsett, Barry sanders and even O.J. Simpson. It is hard to pin down one player as the absolute best. you can try logging on to the NFL hall of Fame web page for a listing of all inducted players.

So obviously you do know that Payton was the best, but another good one would be Jerry Rice. He put up great numbers, won three championships, and unlike most WRs in this day and age was a class person and team player.

Jerry Rice is my all-time favorite. If you ask people in the NFL today they would tell you the best right now is actually Walter Jones. Not a sexy name but he is the best.
