Why is that when they put English actors/actresses in American programmes they always sound posh and stuck up, when in reality English people really don't sound like that at all!
It just makes us British people look stuck up!

its just a quaint stereotype they have of us. i think it better that way than the becoming more of a reality everyday- truth that britain is becoming a nation of chavs and drunken hooligans . politically correct liberals etc have made us ashamed of our heritage.

Its down to the fact that Americans are dim, most of them dont even know where the UK is let alone what we're like. All they've ever seen are editions of Dads Army and Fawlty Towers. Theres still a sect that belive if you travel past the East Coast you fall off the end of the world, a bit like that crap film the Village only on a much bigger scale.

i go to america every year, they love the english accent. my accent although tinged with geordie is just english. they put those types in (e.g. emily in friends) because americans are narrow minded, they're the most stereotypist people in the world. i've seen many plays and shows in america and they portray the english as we were in the 60's. apparently, we havent advanced with the rest of the world. we're seen as tea-drinking, scone-eating, mini skirt-wearing, posh-speaking intelligent people. One person found out i was from newcastle and said, oh geordie land! so did u have to get a boat into mainland england to get a plane here or do u have airports in geordie land!!!! what the FREAKIN hell?!!?! she thought we were a floating city off the coast of england.... although her name was candy and she's diabetic which i found hysterically ironic!

American audiences are victim of their own cultural prejudices, and American TV producers, directors and casting agents are aware of this fact and cast and direct accordingly. Two notable exceptions to the phenomenon you note are (a) Daphne Moon's large Mancunian family from the series "Frasier", and (b) the characters Spike and Drusilla from the series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"

Cus americans can't tell the difference between our accents. They think we are Scouse like The Beatles, Cockney or talk like the Queen

Like in Frasier.. Daphne is english so she can do a northern accent, the woman who plays her mum is american but does a great northern accent, but the guy who plays her brother sounds like he is from London!!

we are a rustic of sheep. Why all human beings are not up in hands approximately it extremely is previous me. The least any authentic American could desire to do is touch your elected officers and set up and attend rallies. In another international locations human beings could be storming their government workplaces with torches for below this.

I know, and what about when they try and get their actors to speak like Londoners ? they sound awful -think of the terrible accent of the sweep (Dick van Dyke) in Mary Poppins.
