How many of you ladies have started taking pre-natal vitamins and had a successful pregnancy? How long before you started taking them were you trying to conceive and how long after you started taking them did you actually conceive. Me and my husband have been trying for about 4 or 5 months to no avail, and I want to start taking pre-natals in hopes that maybe it will help. And when is a good time to start? Before, after, or during my period, or does it not matter?

I believe that prenatal vitamins DO help you get pregnant. I was taking vitamins for 6 months before we tried and fell pregnant first go. My understanding is that it creates a perfect gooey environment for a potential fertilised egg to implant and "stick" in the uterus lining. You can start your vitamins at any time. Consult a chemist or naturopath to get some more information, but typically there are instructions on the bottle. I'm now 11 weeks pregnant and because I've been so sick I haven't been able to stomach my vitamins. I feel awful, but I hope that I've done a lot of good work already and that will help my baby grow. The minute I'm feeling better I'll definitely start taking them again. Good luck!

prenatals do not increase your chances of becoming pregnant, but it's a good idea to have the vitamines in your system that way once you do conceive your body will not want to dispose of them. I can not take them because they make me puke, litterally so my doc has told me to just eat certain foods with the same vitamines in them. I am HOWEVER on folic acid. This is most importnat 6 weeks BEFORE you conceive. And every doctor will tell you this. Take 400 MCG daily, every day. I take mine at night. I have been TTC for over 3 years and the doc finally put me on Clomid which made me conceive, but I had a M/C. Hope this answers all your Qs

While pre-natal vitamins won't guarantee you a pregnancy, it's a great way to get your body on a healthy start to carry a baby. I have 1 daughter and generally you don't start your pre-natals until after you find out you're preganant because it's at that point your body needs the extra vitamins. Think of your pre-natal vitamin as a multi vitmain tailor made for pregnant women.
Have you tried tracking your ovulation? That can help ALOT.

start the prenatal immediately. They have not been proved to increase fertility. However, they do encourage overall health and well being and put your body in the best condition of health for pregnancy. Also, for Hubby, check to make sure he is NOT wearing tight underwear. This is proved to reduce sperm count. Drinking alcohol and many illegal and /or prescription drugs are documented as having a direct affect to lower fertility in both men and woman. Also being over weight can decrease chances. Daily intercourse for two weeks following the last day of your cycle will ensure that you don't miss ovulation. If none of this works, then quit your job and become indigent (joking). some believe that these things always happen at the worst possible time. If in 6 months there is still no pregnancy then I'm afraid only a fertility specialist can help.

The vitamins in "prenatal vitamins" will not help you conceive. they are not much different than a general "women's" multivitamin and they can vary by who makes them. They will help your baby's development be more healthy after you conceive. I took prenatal vitamins after i found out i was pregnant as my daughter was a bit of a surprise for us, and she is very healthy. it's best to start any time before conception, but otherwise there is no right time to start taking the vitamins so today would be great. good luck! and have fun!

I started to take my prenatal like a year before I conceived. At that time I considered them as just good vitamins, which help me during winter (I always get cold in winter) and keep me from avitaminosis. I don't know if they actually helped me to conceive or not. It doesn't matter when you start taking them, just drink plenty of water with them and try to take them every day at the same time of the day. Good luck to you. Let your partner take regular multi-vitamins too.

I started taking the pre-natal vitamins 30 days before I started trying to conceive. I got pregnant the first time we tried. It doesn't matter if you are having aperiod, you can start them anytime. Good luck.

you should've already been taking them. I've been taking them since before my first pregnancy, and still taking them getting ready to go on to the next one now. :-) You have to have that folic acid!!! Very important. I don't think it will help you conceive though...that's just a little timing and a lot of luck. (and sex I suppose). Just keep trying, don't think about it too much, and have fun with it. By the way, have you checked an ovulation calendar to see when you ovulate? That may help. There are some online you can check out. Good Luck!

no one has suggested greenback ordinary or family participants greenback. They cost $2.00 a bottle for 30 pills. as quickly as I took the prescription pre-natal supplementations i become already pregnant. Now that i'm attempting to conceive back i'm taking the over the counter ones.
