I haven't been able to talk for about three days, and I can't go to work because of it. I'm not sick, I just can't seem to talk. Any suggestions, I really want to go back to work tomorrow. It seems like my vocal chords are damaged, cause I just can't seem to clear my throat.

This is what I use for sore throat/lost voice/to clear mucus.

1 cup hot water
2-3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey

also use coughdrops through the day (not more than the recommended dosage, though!) and drink plenty of water.

Oil can help lubricate your throat. A handful of potato chips, for example, can help your throat.

If this keeps up, however, you might want to see a doctor. If your vocal cords really are damaged nothing over the counter or home-remedy is going to help.

First- stop trying to clear your throat. I know it's hard, but that is SO bad for your vocal chords. Keep water with you at all times, and sip it when you feel you need to clear your throat. Warm tea with lemon is really good for your throat. Also, don't keep trying to talk if you can possibly avoid it. Whispering, too, is bad for the vocal chords. Give the voice as total a rest as possible.

Throat coat Tea with herb Slippery Elm: Throat Coat® supports throat health because it includes herbs traditionally used to enhance the structure and function of the throat including speaking (vocal cords), swallowing (esophagus) and air conveyance (trachea).* Althea root and slippery elm bark contain beneficial mucilaginous components that are released into hot water to form a protective viscid ‘coating’ on the mucous membrane lining of the throat when ingested as a tea. Throat Coat® also contains licorice root, which is widely used to enhance throat and upper respiratory tract health.* Throat Coat’s naturally sweet and smooth taste make it an easy tea for children to enjoy and the first choice of speakers, singers or anyone living in a damp, cold climate.

If you think that it "seems like my vocal chords are damaged" you might have an idea of what you might have done to damage them. How about a visit to the doctor? It might be a serious condition.

But if it's just an ordinary case of laringitis (sp?), room temperature pineapple juice is great for coating the throat.

Try a little bit of honey but if your voice still doesn't come out you ought to visit a Throat, Ear and Nose Doctor.
