I think that everything you listen to represents a different side of you. I don't think that you can look at the music I listen to and automatically know who I am, I just think that through the music you might have a better idea.
Music, more often than not, reflects style, not belief. But that's not always the case either. For instance, I'm a REALLY white boy that grew up near the hood. I have always been exposed and enjoyed listening to hip/hop and rap, but that doesn't make me a thug. I don't think that any one style of music can reflect any person. I grew up listening to hip-hop, rap, and rock. But now I listen to those, but also now to jazz, classical, and country. So who am I?

It shouldn't, but unfortunately it does. I always hate this because it means if you look a certain way people expect some type of behavior out of you. Yeah, you shouldn't care what people think about you and not caring is healthy, but that's not the problem. The problem is the generalizing and stereotyping you get for lisitening to some type of music, or by the group the music "represents"; they can do just as much generalizing and make as much put downs too (ie poser).
Sometimes if you are generally a depressed, deep person you'll listen to deeper music like goth, or if you're observant about society it might be socially concious rap or rock, and that describes you to an extent, but you NEVER get the full person from listening to their mp3s.
However it shouldn't stop people from feeling like they can go beyond their box and like other music.

For most of the time...yes. Because I prefer listening to music that I can relate to. Or described about me or my experiences in life.

I dont think it always does but i think there are those who listen to artist who are singin/rapping about an experience that person has gone through. I dont think its like that with everyone all the time but id do think some of us choose our music by our surroundings or what we may wish to be surrounded with.
my favorite artist is tupac and i have a lot in common with him and ive been through a lot he talks about, at the same time i also love chicago (80's band just from hearing them on the radio) so i think even if majority doesnt rule some of what we listen to is a relfection of us.

No, I don't think so, People are always surprised to what I am listening to. They think according to my age, I should listen to Abba or somebody like it, I do like the 80's but I also listen to all the new stuff and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It may depend on what you are listening to, especially if its music about bad things such as demonic stuff.
