Standard list of religious leaders, like it or not.
Gutenberg and the folk who made printed material available.
Galileo and the rest of the medieval astronomers.
Some early mathematicians - many of the Arabic - especially the ones who invented the concept of zero.
The great navigators - the ones we know about and those who were exploring the Pacific with nothing but canoes and good observation.
Then take your pick of 19th-20th century political leaders: Gandhi, JFK, RFK, Hitler, Stalin, and so on ...
Add a few unsung heroes like Norman Borlong I haven't spelled his name properly) - invented a new kind of wheat that stopped India from starving to death; the folk responsible for clean city water and stopped cholera ...
And the bad guys, including those whose legacies will still be playing out long after they've left office, like the crowd surrounding Bush at the moment.

I see that you have alot of great answers and all of them are right but let me tell you something, you don't have to invent a great thing or say a wonderful sentense to impress others, you only have to belive in what you are doing from great thing and the others will be automaticly impressed by you and may change. thats how we change the world. buttom line, there is an enfinatly many people who changed the world and the previous answers and a best examples of this.

George Bailey in the film "Wonderful Life", fantastically played by James Stewart. He showed how we all change the world, in a thousand different ways every day.
