I was watching tv and a VW crash ad came on. It got me wondering....what happens when you're wearing glasses? (either sunglasses or corrective lenses) I wear corrective lenses. I can't imagine what will happen if my airbag goes off. And I don't think you want me driving without my glasses.

That was taken into consideration while designing the air bag. It inflates so rapidly that is already beginning to release pressure before your face hits it. A friend told me it felt like getting hit with a giant marshmallow. You might have some soreness where the glasses push on your nose but you should be just fine. I doubt the glass would break as most are now a blend of glass and plastic designed to be safe in case of impact.

And you can thank safety advocates for all the meassures put into place to protect you and your loved ones.

Are you sure there is no other way to stop it working. Most modern cars have a disconnect switch for the passenger side airbag for safety when using a child seat. They are not always in a prominent place. Check your owners manual.

that part of the airbag thing but yap you have it in one I think it would be very bad but like you I wear glasses as well. My thing about these airbags is they say you should sit a certain distance away from the steering wheel what about a short person and they need to be closer to reach the pedals

The bag does come out at a tremendous amount of speed and would probably break your glasses. If you have contacts, the powder in the bag that makes it go off, which is similar to gunpowder, is going to come out and get in your eyes and probably burn you too. But, think about it, would you rather have to get new glasses or contacts, or be smashed and your head bounce off of the dash?

It did happen to me a yr ago. My rimless glasses were broken, and they finally found the other half of my glasses inside the airbag. I was lucky not to get glass in my eyes.

They might break and glass might get in your eyes and kill you.
