The AC does not work. I have had it recharged twice and it just leaks out and does not cool. Blower works fine, but only blows hot air. Could it be compressor? Any other ideas?

I've brought it to the garage 3 times. I figured I wanted a little knowledge this time because I am tired of getting ripped off. Now they say it is the compressor. I was just wondering if it sounded feasible since the blowers are still working, but I guess they are unrelated?

All AC systems have a special DYE in the refrigerant , you can use a special UV light to see traces of the leaks - I would go to a repair facility and have them look into finding the area of the leak, and fixing it. With the UV light they should have no problems finding the leak-as far as it not working - the low freon switch will not let the system work with low levels of freon - that is what its job does.

So check it out before you spend more money the wrong way...

Good Luck

There are no easy answers to this question. There are many different places an A/C system can leak. The most common are the evaporator or the compressor. But that doesn't mean it's not leaking from a hose or fitting. The best thing you could do at this point would be have the shop put florescent die in the system, charge it up fully and look for the leak and pinpoint it. There are many different good systems for finding freon leaks. If the shop your going to does not have one find a shop that does. It's no more expensive to have this procedure done than charging the system. This way you will only pay for one repair instead of someone guessing at whats wrong.

you need a qualified tecnician, preferably at a dealership. They should do a vacuum test first to see if it's a major leak. If not they should recharge the system and add a Ultra-Violet tracer dye to the system, that will leave a stain when viewed with a UV light. That makes it much easier to find slow leaks or hidden leaks such as the evaporator.

It is probably a compressor and it will cost between $400 - $500 to replace.

The refrigerant leaked out. There is one or more leaks in the system. The hardest one to find is seals on the back side of the compressor.
If you have a reliable Chevrolet dealer in your area, start there.
