I just got engaged and was told by to get put on our homeowners insurance that i needed to get it apprasied.

if an item of jewelery is unique then insurance is pointless. If the ring were lost or stolen, nothing else would replace it.

check the maximum value of any one item in your insurance policy, the ring may have cost less than that. (although the love of the giver is beyond price)

Generally it costs anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on where you get it done. I would go to the place where you bought it, they should have given you an appraisal when you bought the ring.

Go to the jeweler that it was bought at, they should give you an appraisal for free.
