Ted Drake scored seven goals for Arsenal against Aston Villa in the English First Division in 1935 in Arsenal's 7-1 win. Amazingly he only had eight shots that day and the other hit the bar.
(For your info, Drake also scored the only goal in the return fixture at Villa Park, and legendarily mumbled the words "I'm sorry" as he bundled the ball past the line, in a game that helped to push Villa out of the First Division).
Joe Payne scored ten goals for Luton in one game but that was not in the top division Frankie Bunn's six goals for Oldham were also not in the top division.
