In the past, the republican ideology has included : Less government involvement, fiscal responsibility and less government spending.
These haven't really been followed by the Bush administration. Do you think other republicans would like to return to these ideas, or has the ideology for republicans changed.

bajoverga: "In the past, the republican ideology has included " What it means is that there is an ideology, that is composed of the MOST COMMON beliefs. The term republican ideology refers to the generally accepted stances on issues. This in no way says that all republicans hold all of these beliefs. My statement in no way implicates all republicans to these beliefs. I have no idea where you got your rant from. The only thing I do know is that you don't get the "book learning" real well.

good question
there is still a core group of old school republicans who believe in the above ideas, my guess is that they will eventually come back to prominence in the party.

Yes, you are seeing a drift back to Goldwater Republicanism, thank goodness.
The Libertarian/Conservatism movement is picking up steam, finally. We have to be Americans first. We're too focused these days on hyphenation, and less on national unity. I think the border enforcement and terrorism legislation that the House has taken the lead on speaks volumes from the people on the street (who are completely unrecognizable to Senators). let's hope the American Revolution does take hold, and that Old Glory flies on every school, above every bank, in every park and government building and we return to a society that cherishes the Judeo/Christian values that have served us so well for hundreds of years. The America of Fourth of July parades, Apple Pie and Little League will die if we do not save it...these are analogies for a unified nation where every man is your neighbor, that day and age must be revived, under a banner of unity and cooperation and the suppression of polarity in today's body politic.
Taking us back to America First should be the platform Republicans and Independents use to retract our nation from the brink of Political Ineptness.

The republicans have delivered only two things to this country: lower taxes for millionaires, and immunity from lawsuits for large companies that harm people.
They bait the poor sad middle-class republicans with promises of doing something about immigration, abortion, gay marriage, gun control, school prayer, etc.... but after 6 years of controlling all three branches of government with total power, what have they really done on those issues? Nothing.
Any middle class voter who still thinks that Republicans are governing for them is an idiot. But millionaires that vote Republican are smart, and laughing all the way to the bank.

Unfortunately, the need to be "liked" has caused a lot of problems. The Democrats have been very effective at polarizing the voters and forcing the Republicans into doing some things to make themselves look more compassionet.

The republicans of today are like the Democrats of the 60's. There have been some small changes, but I think Bush has made it seem much worse with his not-so-conservative policies.

It seem since the 50's there has been major shift on fiscal responsibility. Government loves government. You forgot to mention States Rights. They crafted a patients bill of rights to deny states the rights to regulate HMO's

Republicans have back-slid in fiscal spending.
But, so have the Democrats in many areas.
They use to stand up for America.
Now, Democrats stand up for the rights of captured terrorists.
Democrats don't care about Americans that are be-headed by terrorists.

Do I really need to quote you?
"In the past, the REPUBLICAN ideology has included"
Not ALL republicans are the same. Stop making stereotypical comments about an extremely large group. Your comments are just like racists and sexists, proclaiming that "all blacks are.....all women are.....all hispanics are...".
If you expect to have any sort of credible debate, change the wording of your question; or maybe even your attitude. Not all "Xs" are "Y".

Its not that republicans have changed, its that bush manipulated them into thinking he was one of them. He would have run as a democrat if we would have fallen for his bullshit. He just lied and said whatever to get into office. He is not a true republican.
