Depends on the car, Junk yards don't make their money selling cars. They make money selling parts. So if you're looking for an old car it might be cheaper looking in the paper or sights like craigslist. Another place you could land a cheap car is your local police impound auctions. My dad used to buy lots of cars from impound auctions, fix them up with the parts he got from the junk yard lol, and sell them. One good thing about buying from police impound auctions is most times the car already runs, because somebody was pulled over in them. Cars go to the highest bidder but usually well under Kelly Blue book values. Good luck, have fun fixing up you car :)

ask for their rebuildables. You might get lucky and find something from the 80's. As far as money, Take as much as you are willing to spend. Don't be afraid to negotiate with them. You might even be able to buy the parts that you need from them. Be careful because you most likely will get a salvage title and every state is different about their guidlines on how the vehicle needs to be repaired and registered. Check with your local DMV office. Good luck

FIRST OF ALL IF YOU PLAN ON BUYING ONE FROM THE JUNK YARD YOU HAVE TO FIND ONE THAT CAN SELL CARS, ALLOT OF JUNK YARDS AREN'T LICENSED TO SELL WHOLE CARS BUT THERE ARE SOME. SOMETIMES THEY HAVE SOME THAT SIT OUT FRONT THAT THEY TRY TO SELL SO IT IS JUST GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME AND EFFORT TO FIND WHAT YOU WANT.
