Better Biz Bureau is a great place to start. If they are publicly traded, look up their ticker. Check out their website and see who they do business with - talk to their vendors etc. Sometimes using a head hunter is the way to go b/c they typically find employees for companies that they feel are buoyant. Google them on the web - there is so much info out there - if you are serious about getting your arms around whether or not this company is healthy, it's a lot easier to do that now than it ever was in the past. Good luck!!

Definitely betterbusinessbureau.com

It's going to tell you if they have unsatisfactory reports and all that good stuff. Although there are some businesses where it's in the investigation stages.
