Oxygen.

One theory of ageing is that over time oxygen free radicals damage pretty much all types of molecules in our bodies (nucleic acid, protein, etc) and eventually the damage catches up with us and something goes catastrophically wrong and we die. Its a popular theory but probably only one facet of the ageing process.

cell division??

It's how we develop from an embryo and grow, but with every cell division the telomeres shorten effectively 'ageing' the cell. Eventually the cell will die..... :-( As a whole organism that's probably quite bad news.

Air, but I guess you could also argue it is the heart.

We need it to keep on beating for us to go on living.

When it finally stops beating we keel over and die.
