Hi. Float and do not move. True quicksand is located over a spring which keeps the grains in a fluid-like state. When your foot, say, penetrates the sand the water stops flowing up and the sand over your foot tends to now sink. Nasty feeling!

Quick sand does exists, and it is caused by the upflow of water. If you fall in, simple swim to one side. The problem is, if the water stops flowing, the sand becomes as hard as concrete. So get out quick.
If you fall into a swamp or bog, you're just S.O.L.

Rescue gear is a tube with holes. The tube is sticked into the surrounding sand. In the tube is then water being pumped. Then you'll get loose.
You can't sink completely, your head (at the very least) will always stay on top. But if the floods come in or if there's no one to help dig you out, you might be screwed. That's the way BTW: trying to dig you out with the hands. First, work on ONE leg, NOT on both at the same time!

Swim your way out. The viscosity is more than water, so you have more buoyancy and can get out.
