I think I saw something on t.v. about this -- and it has something to do with the diversity in their gene pool. The more diversity you have in the gene pool, then the better and stronger features will always come to the forefront.

For why Filipino's don't have too much of Asian features like Chinese or Korean is due to the fact that we were originally Islanders that look a lot like native Indians like in the movie Apocalypto. Then we were captured and over ruled by the Spanish therefore having Spanish decent. In the second world war, Japan enslaved, killed, and rapped many Filipino's and deeply Influencing our culture therefore you would see Filipina's in the 1950's-1960's wearing Kimonos and having more Asian features while at the same time keeping their Spanish/Islander features.Not all Filipino's were from Japanese decent though, in fact more Filipino's are from Spanish decent. That is why you can see some light bronze tan Filipino's that have slightly Asian features and others that are dark skin, with no Asian features once so ever.

Filipinos speak the best American English in the world. I bet this has something to do with it. In college the Filipino Club parties were always packed with people of all races because we speak great English and threw great parties. Filipinos are present in most fraternity and sorority even the African American ones. The American Military is loaded with Filipinos. Filipinos have helped America in wars since 1898.
As for looks Its personal preference but I think you are right.

i'm a filipino, and thanks for the compliment....
thing is, races today are mixtures of all. whetehr caucasians, latinos, africans, asians.... also, the tropical weather here creates filipino genes to adapt to it. caucasian races often have winters to live by. thus having summer and winter causes the gened to contract more melanin in their skin. depending on their cell, winter time causes more melanin to extract and be spent. at the same thought, tropical weather are just rain or shine. either one develops the melanin for the skin to evolve naturally (rather than speed up the dryness). also, due to the weather, filipinos/filipinas tend to cleanse their body thrice a day. their hygiene is high that they need to bathe more often... to refresh themselves on a hot summer day, or to wash the dirt they feel everyday... we tend to bathe thrice a day. thus melanin development is rather rounded up in good growth instead of drying up. thus our skin color....
facials, on the other hand, our brought about by the parents genes and the manner a citizen cares for it. vanity is always a must (though not compulsary). i mean, we tend to impress ourselves on what we can project... thus the health and facial care...

As what many hae said it might be attributed to our genealogy. I'm a Filipino by the way. We have Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, American and Arab genes mixed with ours so that might be one of the reasons
