I liked "the burning" a horror movie from the early 80's, I was allowed by an older cousin to watch it and I was only 4ish at the time. Needless to say it scared the heck out of me at that time, I remember I used to call it "the man with the big scissors" because it was a man whose chosen weapon to kill with was garden sheers. Even now 20 odd years later no film has scared me like that movie did, and as getting a fright is why we watch scary movies, i'd say this one was my ultimate scary movie.

Scream. I am not the biggest scary movie fan, but the Scream movies were well done. Very good story plus the suspense of a scary movie.

I think it would have to be The Shining. I read the book first and didn't sleep well for a while after I finished it, but the movie really scared the heck out of me! Jack Nicholson was a perfect choice for the role he played!!

The Exorcist. Best ever. Period!

Although The Hills Have Eyes had the most gore IMO.

The Shining is a classic too.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare. That movie scared the crap out of me. Seeing Robert Englund playing himself opposite Freddy really messed me up.
