They have already started to go back up. The OPEC countries are whining that the price of a barrel is now too low and that they might cut production. Obviously cutting production will lower the supply so the prices will go back up. Uhm....before the election, dear.
The price went up 12 cents today where I live.

That depends very largely on Bush. One of the major reason prices went up was the fears of the tensions between Iran and the US.

Bush relaxed the tensions a few weeks ago, just in time for elections. This would encourage the oil markets to lower prices.

If Bush steps his tough talk against Iran back up again after elections, then yes the gas price will go back up.

This is the largest percentage drop in gas prices prior to a mid term election ever, so i'd say yeah, thats a good call on your part.

What makes this so suspect is the fact that overall oil and gas supplies are still historically tight, and 3 of the 5 major refiners announced a reduction in capacity due to refinery maintenance.

There is something definitely fishy going on. And lets face it, Big oil would much rather have republicans in the house and senate than democrats.

Less gas being consumed, less demand, more surplus. Prices typically go down in the fall when the summer travel season ends and school begins.

No, it's market forces at work - summer driving season is over and demand has ebbed so inventories have grown causing the price to drop. OPEC still has us in its stranglehold, of course - no letup there. America LUVS its SUVs....and OPEC luvs 'em too. Good Luck!

with the aid of "furnish and demand" conspiracy. iciness has been warmer than known so a good distance (apart from the previous couple of days), which led to much less use of heating oil. Heating oil is made out of crude oil, and much less use of it has led to bigger furnish of crude oil, making the cost of crude bypass down. gasoline is likewise made out of crude oil, and over 50% of the cost of gasoline on the pump relies on the cost of crude. OPEC has some administration over the cost, yet no longer as much as they use to. They already decreased production to develop the cost, however the cost persisted to drop. reducing production reasons much less furnish, which makes the cost of crude bypass up. yet there are a number of non-OPEC oil producing international places obtainable now that OPEC does not have the means they use to.

Since when does the US dictate oil prices from OPEC ?

Want to see gas prices really fall start developing coal to oil conversions and watch the freak out in OPEC begin .
They will flood our markets with cheap oil to keep us from energy self reliance.

When you reach the sixth grade, you will learn about supply & demand.
Study, learn, and understand.
That will explain to you about gas prices, and prices on everything else.
