Honestly, a simple tattoo sounds good to me, but there not for everyone. Why not have a star named after you two? At least this way the star will shine forever....... like your commitment.

How about writing each other a poem expressing your feelings for one another. You could also pick a special song. If you can't write poems than write your feelings down on paper. You could go to a special place like a bed and breakfast and make a new memory there...your special place. You could also take a romantic picture together and each keep one with you at all times as a reminder of your committment.

Write your own commitment vows.. that are vows of your love and commitment. say them to each other in a nice romantic place alone. That only two of you would think is romantic. Like where you met, candlelit room, a nice scenic picnic or mountain top..
Write them down and exchange them. Keep them in frames and put them someplace special that you can see and reflect on regularly so you know where you are now and where you want to be 5 - 10 years from now..

Having a different outlook on a situation or on values in society doesn't make you some special snowflake and it doesn't make you better. Good for you, you don't want the flowers, ring, dress, etc. That's YOUR opinion and values, and you are entitled to that. But DON'T get on other women for wanting a special day, or for having different values. Who knows why some women want that, they just do, and it's fine for them to want to. Why question what people want? Hypothetically, let's say, in the past, for the prom I thought it was over-rated, I didn't want to waste my money on a dress, limo, shoes, etc. That's fine, I'm titled to not want to do that, however i'm not going to judge and question those who do want to dress up and go, because EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Everyone has different wants and values, and to question why someone has different ones to you if rather silly.

Have a nice little commitment ceremony. It doesnt have to be legal. It could just be the 2 of you.

my husband and I do this-squeeze your partner's hand once for "I love you." They squeeze you back twice for "I love you too.". It's something you can do anywhere at almost any time without having to worry about being discreet. It's also something you can do when you're having a disagreement-no one has to say anything but it's a reminder of how much you love each other.

Just tell him you're committed, and have him tell you in return. Not quite sure what you're after here. Usually people just get engaged.
