If you check them out, they shouldn't be angry with you. If they get angry with you, then you don't need to go to that parlor, it's that simple.

Good customer service - even from a tattoo parlor - is just good business.

It is your body and you are responsible for it...always check and ask around. I always do and am not sorry for it. And I never get ink on the first visit. I check out their books and talent, and talk to others that have had ink done there.
Basic rule: If they get mad or defensive, or can't provide good answers about procedure or their license, then they have something to hide. If they can discuss health codes and I can tell they use unopened needles and unused ink and have sterile habits, I can figure they are safer than some out of the way roadhouse that doesn't even own disposable gloves. And keep an eye open for how clean they really are. And the whole "may I use your restroom" excuse to see how clean they are is a good idea, too, believe it or not. The old story is true about how much you can tell about a person by their bathroom. Don't ever be scared of standing up for yourself! Way to go....

If they are following the laws of universal precautions with blood and instruments used to pass blood they shall not get angry. I have worked in the Hepatitis realm in advocacy for years and we have actually found pockets of places where hepC is rampant and traced it back to tattoos. To be safe they need to show that they do not reuse needles, do not dip new needles in old water or ink and everything should be disposable and not opened when they begin the work on you. It is like finding a good doctor. If they are happy to find an educated client then they are open and thus better doctors with open minds and hopefully continuing their education. So just go in and ask. If they get angry walk out......it is not worth getting HIV or HepC or HepB or any other blood born virus conditions believe me. Same is true with our dentists, one actually said I may pass HepC on to his patients. When I delivered info from the CDC and NIH about autoclaving and sterile conditions being the cause of many patients contracting from dentists he changed his tune. Even getting razor and electric razor cuts at the hair dressers and manicurists is a risk due to the sharp objects used. I got irrate when my grand daughter was getting a manicure in Las Vegas and the woman stuck her finger with the scissors. I made her show me what they used for sterilization and it was not a way to remove the virus of Hepatitis C as it is very much alive for up to 7 days out of the body in dried form. Oh dont get me going.........good question.

They should not be upset that you are doing a check of all that stuff! They should MORE than happy to show you how they sterilize their instruments, and that each needle is individually wrapped. If they aren't don't go back!

I have 6 tattoos, every time I go in, they make a big deal about showing me everything is sterile.. and that everything is opened just before they use it.

You can also call your local BBB and get info about any shop in your town!
Good luck!

If they get mad at you for checking on their cleanliness before you go there - - then DONT GO THERE! Ask them how they sterilize their equipment. Ask them to open the new needle in front of you. Talk to other people who have gotten tattoo's there and see how they like them, if they are happy with how the colors held, if they had any problems healing them. Most reputable tattoo parlors will welcome your questions and will help you take the time to make the right decisions. Don't be afraid to ask! It's your health!

When you go in look for the person that looks the most relaxed

Be armed with:

1. A checklist (it's funny and you won't forget to ask anything)
2. An inquiring, sincere look.
3. Cotton gloves so they know hygiene is your thing.
4. A smile

Ask like you want advice, pple respond better to that rather than being questioned.

Just go in and ask if they've ever had any health code violations--it's as simple as that. If they become upset and treat you poorly, it's probably because they HAVE and they're trying to hide something. Do you really want to get a tattoo in a place like that? Any decent parlor will gladly show you all their licenses, and do it with a smile.

Go in and while you are looking, just keep telling them you are curious about this or wondering about that. Just don't tell them that you are looking and don't imply you might go somewhere else. If your friends have tattoos, ask where they went and who did them. I do piercings and I have no trouble showing people that everything is new and sterile and clean

Me personally, if they get mad for a customer asking if it's safe, then I'd be a tad leery. Where I am, I've asked a lot of people where they get their tatoo's done, piercings too, etc. and they can usually give a pretty good description if you ask enough people. Ask around is what I'd say, word of mouth is the most effective.

They shouldn't unless they are plain jerks or they have something to hide! If they get mad at you for taking the extra precautions then they don't deserve your business, go somewhere else. Your safety and health should always come #1!! They should give you assistance in assuring you that everything is safe and sanitary. =)

A real tattoo shop would want to be checked out. You could die or worse if they were not sterile. If they get mad you don't want them anyway. l would check their history with city hall before.
