Trust me, you did something wrong...and illegal. If I were you, I'd have approached the professor and found out if they had a book you could borrow until you could afford your own. Or, looked online, you can get international editions for a fraction of the cost.

Of course its not ethical. Just because you can't afford something doesn't mean its OK to TAKE it, in other words IT IS STEALING!

If I said that I wanted a pair of jeans and did not have cash so i took them ..you would call me a thief ..right..ok so why is this different.

I would have at least seen the professor and/or borrowed one from the library first!

The problem with many people in society are that they lack basic moral character and don't feel bad cause they truly believe ..what they NEED they should GET..otherwise its NO fair , right.... WRONG, life is not fair and sometimes we do not get the things we need!

If you truly can't afford the books, there is a thing called financial aide. THat's what they do, they help you out. Stealing a book is considered morally wrong, no matter what the consequences. That's like telling someone who needed money that it was ok to rob a bank...there are many other (better) decisions you could have made.

The fact that you asked this question suggest to me that you already know the answer. The person you stole from may also have trouble paying for books and tuition. If you robbed a bank and gave the money to charity, would it be ok?

If the govt got out of high schools, the quality of education would go up If students were required to pay ridiculously high tuition like college today, there would likely be fewer high school grads But you can have one without the other (Like the school voucher program which allowed kids to go to private schools basically for free...of course the teachers union crushed that program because they need the govt to force us to use their lousy schools)

The sad part is that you don't believe you did anything wrong. It would have been nice to here you say that you took it because you needed it and could not afford it but feel bad about doing so.

I would love to know what you are going to college for ? Attorney, Politics, please don't say the medical field or a teacher.

Best of luck

on one hand you did steal - on the other, you are trying to improve yourself through education
BUT . . . when books are stolen, it raises the cost of the books for everyone else, which is wrong
is there some way you can "repay" society for your crime? For example, do something worthwhile with your education, like become a social worker or a teacher - or help someone specific out right now - homework help, or something like that? next time you might try asking for help - you would be suprised how many people out there are willing to help out - like a teacher lending you her book

You stole a book. Stealing is unethical.

Next time find a student in the same financial predicament as you, split the cost of the book and share it.

Yes, it's very wrong to take somebody elses stuff. If somebody had taken -your- book you would of been very upset and angry. I would of just turned to a neighbor and said "hey, I can't pay for a book right now. Can I share with you?" Chances are they'd be understanding and willing to share.

As somebody else already said.....go to Amazon.com.

What you did is stealing. Today was a book tomorrow might be something else....please return the book and talk to your financial aid advisor about your book needs.
