I have used IE for many years, and I still like it. But recently, for some reason, it has started to complete my URL addresses that I am typing in the address box. I remember a long time ago, I told it NOT to do that. It started to do it again. Is there a way I can turn this off? I do NOT want it to attempt to complete the URL I am typing. Thanks for helping! (If it matters, I run on a Dell, with windows XP)

➔ Internet
it takes more than just clearing history
which is what most people think is the solution
do the following and you will have no worries
open your browser
click tools up top
click internet options
click clear history
change the days to keep history to 0
click delete files
click settings change the amount of disk space to use to 1mb
click ok
now click the content tab
click auto complete
click clear forms
then where it says use autocomplete for uncheck all the things you dont want your browser to store.
that way you wont have to keep going back and clearing things out. good luck

To adjust AutoComplete settings
You can configure AutoComplete to save and suggest only the information you want. You can choose whether to use AutoComplete for Web addresses, forms, and passwords, or not use it all. You can also clear the history for any of these.
1. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. Under Personal information, click AutoComplete.
4. Select the check boxes for the AutoComplete options you want to use.
5. Uncheck the Web Addresses.

read below about it might not stay off
★★ DISABLE AUTOCOMPLETE ★★
◙ If you have Yahoo Toolbar click on the edit button to disable the AutoComplete function.
◙ Internet Explorer
1. From Internet Explorer, choose "Tools" then "Internet Options".
2. From the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, select the "Content" tab.
3. Click the "AutoComplete" button.
4. Uncheck everything.
5. Click the "Clear Forms" button.
6. Click the "Clear Passwords" button.
7. Press "OK" to close the dialog boxes.
◙ NOTE: AutoComplete may not stay off completely because some webmasters have autocomplete="on" in the form tag in their web forms. I do this in my forms. If you come to one of these and you can't get the AutoComplete to leave you alone while you type something in to the form. Simply paste the text in from a wordprocessor or notepad and it won't bother you.

Open IE click on the tools option then go to internet option then clcik the content tab. there will be a button for auto complete and uncheck the box for web addresses . after that if you did not change the setting you probably need to run a spyware scan.
