Is it more effective to use very large weights to start with and use only small reps, adding reps and decreasing weight as I go.... or is it better to use the same amount of reps through out my entire workout, and then add on weight as I go??

J D gave you the right answer. Try not to get into a repetetive workout though...switch it up ever couple weeks in order to stimulate your muscles into new growth.
Eat A LOT of lean meats...chicken and turkey (white meat only) were all i ate for lunch and dinner and snacks as a freshman basketball player trying to bulk up (i went from 195 to 235 in one year on the same diet/workout program). I also incorporated whey protein shakes in the morning and evening, but i got it free...if you're paying for it it will get a little expensive.
In the offseason i'd keep my cardio to a minimum...20 minutes 3 times/week, basically as a warmup for my workout. the pyramid workout is best...10 8 5 5 as JD had said, but everyone is different. good luck.

Are you a beginner or experienced. Putting on Bulk is mainly a function of your diet, if you eat alot and eat clean you will bulk with most weight programs. FOr most of my clients that want to bulk I like to cycle workout phases but stick mostly with lower rep higher weights. I like to use a pyramid, like 4 sets of 10 8 5 5 reps. After about 4 weeks you can do a reverse pyramid, etc. If you wait to bulk, lots of lean meats, whey protein and creatine is great for bulking. Just eat (lots), workout religiously , you will bulk.
