Certainly the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in the US is the top story of the year, even globally. In the US, the Enron scandal blossomed in late spring/early summer (May/June?), and that scandal is still shaking things up. The crash of the Internet economy in the US throughout 2001 is also big news.

In the wake of 9/11, all aircraft in the US were grounded for several days, something that had never happened before or since. After the actual attack, that may be the most memorable thing about 2001.

Also, the anthrax attack in Oct 2001 was very memorable. The crime remains unsolved.

I recommend going to your local public library.

Ask for the World Almanac from 2002. The 2002 Almanac will have the events from the previous year listed.

You can also check the yearbooks that are published with encyclopedias.

You will get more choices/ideas if you check these reference sources.

Most, at least in the states, would think of Sept. II, since we have since heard so much about 9-11.

I don't remember much from other months except my usual routines.
