I'm a teacher. For the most part, I do not hold grudges. If a student continuously causes trouble in the classroom and makes teaching difficult, I certainly won't forget it. However, if a student makes a mistake once, I do not dwell on it. Students and teachers alike make mistakes all the time. I'm sure if you apologize to your teacher (it seems you are sorry), he/she will respect you as a person and more than likely will forgive you on the spot.
Please remember, teachers have a lot in which they are responsible for during the day. This being said, they often do not have time to hold grudges and give backlash to students.
As long as you do not continue to talk back to your teacher and you start showing him/her respect, then the teacher will do the same.
Good Luck.

As I teacher, I remind you we're human. I do my best to not hold grudges and am successful most of the time. The students who cause the most problems in class do often get the brunt of my frustration through the day. Like the first guy said...one time thing you were probably just the straw the broke the camel's back for that day. If you have a history of this there might be some longer lasting consequences.

Yes, they do, and it can get ugly, I had one who asked for an opinion, and when given, told off the students who responded in the negative, and held a grudge the rest of the year. Had one who picked on me until I was ready to run away from school. [I was the quiet not cute kid who did not open her mouth unless forced to]. Try apologizing, something like, I'm sorry Mrs. Teacher, I should not have talked back to you in front of the class. From now on, if I have an issue, I will take it up with you in private.
See if that doesn't get you an apology right back. And you will be the adult, and have her thinking maybe she judged you wrongly, and in haste, and too publicly.

Teachers are like regular people, they hate people and they like people. If your one that your teacher hates you're almost safe because they can't do anything when it comes to your grades about it otherwise they get a fine!
If you don't want to have your teacher hold a grudge, buy some flowers or chocolates or something and apologize to your teacher and give them the gift.

To fix the situation, you might schedule a time that you can visit with the teacher and sincerely apologize. Do not approach the teacher as an equal but as an elder, with respect and courtesy. Make sure you clearly state that you know you were in the wrong and ask what you can do to help fix the situation.

personal story:
a group in my class needed to leave early from a test, she said we could come in the next morning to finish the test and it would be no problem
next morning, i finish it and on my way out she mutters about how i must have memorized the answers and cheated by finishing the test.
i knew this teacher before, so i said "haha whatever" and laughed it off, thinking she was joking
...
later that day during class she basically bitched me out in front of everyone very harshly (despite my explanation of misunderstanding her and subsequent apology) and has never forgiven me since
so, hopefully you have a more mature teacher than i had to deal with, i ultimately dropped the class because she held the grudge against me.

Teachers (Educators in the public/private school system) are human just like everyone else. Unlike doctors who still screw up occassionally I don't think they're under any form of hypocratic oathe. Therefore it's very possible that your teacher could be holding a petty grudge underneathe her washed up Kathy Lee Gifford K-Mart Collection skirt. - Holla

They will probably hold a grudge on you. Depends on their personality. But if they do hold grudges, they shouldn't let it affect your grades or her attitude towards you. It might affect your grades a little because you're not suppose to talk back to a teacher.

Yes, I remember a particular teacher who didn't like it when my mom complained about me getting bullied. So she took me to the side next day and told me to "stop telling tales" - I was 5 years old. She would regularly make fun of me in class for not knowing answers - and of course, I was too scared to tell anybody about it.
Unfortunately some nasty teachers do exist. :-(
