Sadly, shame along with morals, has left society for this generation. Everything is "in your face" nowadays and made, by society, to think that anything goes.. Back in the day, if you even got caught cursing in front of an adult, you'd be totally embarressed, let alone having sex in a bathroom of a bar, or walking down the street smoking a joint or having 3 or 4 babies by 3 or 4 fathers..it's a sad world...

With celebs deliberately choosing to do bad things just to attract attention, negative attention, any attention, small wonder the rest of us think we should do likewise. The me, myself and I generation. Now everyone has a right to say and do whatever they want, and get mad and threaten lawsuit when someone attempts to stop them. Radios blaring at two a.m, little kids running wild in the street at all hours, the parents have no shame about their kids, so the kids don't either. The local newspapers used to print arrest lists, now they don't, they might get sued. We are not allowed to use shame anymore as a deterent.
My favorite story of the no shame attitude came from my honorary niece, who is in her ealy 20's. She was shopping at a national chain store for kids, looking for clothes for her pre-school daughter. After a good look at all the sequined, miniskirted, low-necked, feather boa, tummy bare selection, she did not buy, telling her mother that it was "prosta-tot" clothes. We dress our children like prostitutes. We have no shame. I will not be putting a five year old in a red t-shirt, emblazoned across the front with the word "sexy" in sequins.
Shameful behavior has always been here, just hasn't been so accepted, so publisized, so used to get attention. People will do anything for it, or to get their cause some publicity.
You mentioned one that sticks in my craw, too. Going to funerals to protest homosexuality in the military. Forget the killing and dying, forget that these people probably do not have ties to the military anymore, that tie is dead. Forget about the religious aspect of most funerals, forget about the dead soldier is probably not homosexual, you can protest, so you will. Shame on you people! Go protest at military bases and installations, and let your legislators know you do not like it. Leave the dead to their peace.
OK, I am off the soapbox. Thank you for the opportunity to vent. Note, I am venting in an approprieate way, not at two a.m in public.

Well, you're over-generalizing big time. I, for one, haven't participated in any of the things you cite, nor have most of us.
Take all of the reality shows, for example, that's a total of a few hundred people. The US has over 300 million people in it.
I also agree with whoever said above that there has always been shamelessness. With more communication and with titillation-obsessed media (not to mention an utterly shameless administration in power), there's more of it in our faces, but, I disagree with you that no person in this country (whichever country you're referring to) is capable of experiencing shame.
Those who used to lynch blacks and scream obscenities at black children trying to attend school had no shame. In some ways, people (some people) are more ethical than ever.
There are new forms of shamelessness available now; that doesn't mean that "everyone" takes advantage of this.

Stuff like that has been around forever. People did embarrassing things on TV, radio and on stage before reality TV, whores slept with men of power before Clinton, and people have protested anything you can think of.
The truth is, while today's society may be more shameless than in the past, this country - and mankind in general - has always been shameless.
