Do you have a bachelor's degree already? If so, you can do an Alternative Teaching Certificate Program. The length of time varies, the shortest I've seen is a 7 week intensive all day everyday offering.
Go to your state Department of Education website. It should give you some resources and the procedures for becoming certified in your state.

Complete a bachelor's degree in teaching or if you already have a bachelor's degree, you must earn some university units in teaching before qualifying to teach and obtain teaching certificate.

It depends on what state you are in, where you go to get the certificate, whether they offer an accelerated program. I know in NY you have to have a master's degree to teach. That takes 6 years. However, in Kansas there are no minimum requirements to become a teacher.

Probably about 14 to 18 months after you get your degree. You have to take additional courses for the grade and subject, plus for teaching and then you have to student teach for 10 weeks under supervision. Then you make an application and pay a fee and wait for it to be processed.

it depends on the state. you do need a bachelor's degree, and in many states you will also need a master's degree. in new york state, for example, you need a master's degree before you can get a temporary certificate, and 3 years of teaching experience before you can get a permenant one. it depends on the teaching program and school, but master's degrees can take 1-2 years to get. call your local board of education to find out the requirements for your state. good luck!
