Yes it is illegal to do both. Throwing things at homeless people is the same as attempting to assault them or even actually assaulting them. Also, taking change from their cups is stealing from them. Comment: Before you keep on being "cute" about hurting homeless people why not ask yourself "What if I was homeless"? Or is that impossible for you to imagine?

Assault and stealing are both illegal and I can't imagine anyone not knowing this. Homeless people, many of whom are mentally ill, are already having too many problems just staying alive. They don't need evil people giving them a rough time and the law should throw the books at anyone who does!

It not only illegal but it is down right a low life thing to do. Imagine that you were in this same situation. You have down on your luck, no job, no education, no resources to get money and no mental attitude to help yourself out. Then comes this low life slug that you are describing here that puts you down, steals from you as you have nothing anyway, and then even threatens you with bodily harm. How would you feel and why would you even ask a uneducated mean, horrible, selfish, I want to show them I am better than they are, and inconsiderate question like this.
Didn't you learn anything your mother taught you about compassion?

Throwing things at people, homeless or not, would be considered assault and battery (assault if you threaten to hit them, and battery if you actually do), and stealing change from their cups is still stealing.
I don't know if you would get prosecuted due to the fact that homeless people generally won't press charges, but that is very, very wrong. Picking on the most vunerable is just plain wrong.

Is it illegal to throw things at people? Yes. It's called (generally) assault and/or battery.
It is illegal to take property or money from people without their consent? Yes. It's called theft or larceny, or robbery if by force.
The fact that someone may not own a home or rent an apartment doesn't change the laws for assault, battery, larceny, robbery or just about any other criminal statutes that apply in your jurisdiction.

It's assault and theft. Learn the law or go to Jail. If you hate the homeless so much, you've got a problem. You're angry and will get into trouble unless you get help. Would you rather trade places with them?

Why would you want to hurt someone who is already hurting so much? Just because you are fortunate enough to have a roof over your head, it does not mean you are better then someone who does not! How dare you imply that any human life is worthless and deserves such ridicule? You need to seriously grow up!

Why would you want to do that? They have lots less than you do, don't try to ridicule them. Better people would give some of what they had to the homeless. WWJD?????
