While cleaning out my attic, I found an autographed copy of Mein Kampf. I asked my Grandfather (a WWII veteran) about where he found it and he siad he picked it off of a german soldier. Do you have any idea on the value of this book? I would also like to know when it would best to sell.

O.O

Autographed by Hitler?

Wow... I don't know how you'd start appraising, etc, but I'd imagine, if it's in decent condition, it'd be worth a good bundle.

I sold a first edition (1925) a few years ago in a Berlin auction for about £500. I bought a copy in a Kent auction of the 1939 James Murphy translation for £1 although I was very lucky and I would guess it to be worth £200. I believe it is still illegal to own a copy in Austria so don't try and sell it there.

It is actually illegal to sell Nazi memoriablia in many European countries; keep that in mind if you sell it on Ebay. Hilter's supposed sketches and watercolors were just auctioned off for a large amount of money in Cornwall, England. A parting thought: while someone who wants to buy this may indeed be demented, they may also want to ensure future generations remember the madness of Hitler. A charitable donation from your future sale would keep you in good Karma though.

a. Are you sure it's an ink autograph and not one that's printed on?

b. The vast majority of Nazi memorabilia for sale nowadays is fake - read "Selling Hitler" by Robert Harris. Chances are, if you try and sell it, the buyer will want provenance and "my grandfather stole it from a German" is not going to cut it.

My Father recently bought an original copy (it was not autographed though) and it cost him over 300.00 dollars. Go to a really good bookstore and have it appraised or even an antique store they should be able to tell you its value

Whatever you decide to do, deal with the buyer at arm's length, so they don't know your real name or address. Because do you really want to be known to someone who would pay good money for such a thing? Some neo-Nazi or rather warped book collector, I should think.

Well, you need to be careful. It's actually illegal for you to sell. You can't "pick" items off dead soldiers when you are in a war. I know people have done it, but they're not supposed to.

You need to come up with a good story of how you came across this item. Good luck....

go to a independent bookseller. especially if you have one in town that specializes in antique books. they're usually pretty honest and they'll be the best judges of how much the book is valued at. DEFINITELY DO NOT go on ebay. you may undervalue the book. from the sound of it, it's priceless. i'd personally hang on to that.

offer it on ebay with a "reserve" (a minimum price) and see what happens
