Spread about 2 Tablespoons of mayonnaise on a paper towel.
Place the paper towel on the white water mark. Press lightly.
Leave the mayonnaise on the stain about 15 minutes.
Lift the paper towel and check the stain. If the mark remains, rub more mayo into it again and check it later.

I have tried this and it works.

Check the links below -- they are step-by-step instructions for removing water stains from wood, plus other tips from other users at eHow.com. Also, from the last link:

"The best way to remove white marks is to use NON GEL TOOTHPASTE... Rub this around area, let sit overnight, then rub again. Wipe off all toothpaste. Then wipe area with a soft rag that had been dipped into a STRONG solution of room temp brewed tea (as in the kind you make with tea bags and drink) Ring out rag & make sure rag is not dripping & is just moist. The tea cleans and conditions the wood. Then oil or polish as usual.
For scratches fill scratch with a matching color of a child's crayon, heat with a blowdryer, then wipe with a soft cloth.
For very old beat up Wood Furniture Garage Sale finds, I've had great success in cleaning excess old polish & grime with straight Ammonia (Outside!) then using tinted Old English Furniture polish... The pieces I've done came out looking like new!"

Good luck!

Make a paste of butter or mayonnaise and cigarette ashes. Apply to spot and buff with a slightly damp cloth. Polish as usual.

Most times, they will go away by themselves. If it does not, you will need to refinish your wood table. The water absorption shows that the finish has worn thin and will need to be readministered.
