most companies will call on the day they make the decision then do the background checks once you have excepted (stops unnecessary work) they may make a call to one of your references but it will most probably be a basic did they work for you how long when ect... good luck

I worked in an HR department for 4 years. Depending on the job, you can expect a call back within 2 weeks from your interview. It is okay to call for status after 2 weeks. Most employers' respect a follow up call after an interview.

Definately send a Thank You card to the interviewer/boss/whoever. It will give you "brownie points" especially if the other candidates don't send one. If they make the decision on a Friday, they will start Monday on the background check, so about 2-3 weeks. Good Luck!!

I owuld go with the first suggestion -- be sure to send a follow-up thank you note or email.
Don't check back any earlier than Tuesday of next week. Mondays are hectic in any business, and they will appreciate your waiting the extra day.
If you haven't heard anything by next Tuesday, a follow-up phone call is fine, but if you don't get a positive response from that, continue your career search. If you get a callback *after* that, that's a pleasant surprise, but don't depend on it. It's always best to be prepared for the alternative scenario anyway!
Good luck to you!

Waiting is the hard part, huh. Wait a few days and give them a call. When I worked in Human Resources, if an applicant didn't call to check on the decision making progress, my boss assumed they weren't interested enough and eliminated them from the running. If they say it will still be a couple of weeks, wait a little longer than you did the first time and call again. It's a fine line, you don't want to be a pest but you do want to show you are ready, willing and able.

My husband just went thru all of this and it took weeks cause he was dealing with on of the largest corp. emplorers. But it will take about 2-3 days to do a back ground check, get college degree info, and do reference checks. Plan on hearing something late next week.

They should tell you if you are the primary choice and if they are doing a background check on you before they begin it. Call them early afternoon on Friday if you haven't heard. Have you sent the thank you letter yet?
