When 80% of New Orleans is still not rebuilt and with Hurricane Victims still asking for help. Couldn't that money spent rebuild the football statium be better spent helping others rebuild their homes? Are they not the real ones in need not a bunch of football fans and don't care where the game is being played.

All the money did NOT come from football.

To repair the Superdome, FEMA put up $115 million, the state spent $13 million, the Louisiana Stadium & Expedition District refinanced a bond package to secure $41 million and the NFL contributed $15 million.

Don't see the stadium as being a big driver of tourism going forward. I have been to New Orleans 4 times (pre Katrina), and not once did I do more than drive by the dome.

I think FEMA could have spent the $115 million demolishing the remaining storm-damaged homes and other buildings, to make the city more poised for renewal (or at least reduce the hazards).

The Saints will be gone from New Orleans within five years. You can't have a team without a city around it, and New Orleans will not be what it was for decades, if ever. Sad, but true.

I'm not sure if I agree with you that football fans don't care where the game is played. Looking at the fans last night, I'm pretty sure they cared where the game is played.

New Orleans lives and dies on tourism. Always has, always will. What does that mean? To have tourism, you gotta have tourists. What do you go to get tourists? Give them something to do or something to see. And what do tourists do when they come in? Spend money. And what does the money they spend do? Creates jobs. And what do those jobs do? Give money to the community that can then be used to rebuild.

That $187 million spent may turn into a lot more money for the community than it would if it had just been handed out, because that money can create prosperity, something that handouts never do.

That's just what I said to my husband this morning - I do think the money should of went to rebuild people's homes before a football stadium -- Who is going to want to go see a football game some where ,where there is nothing else .
you should get 10 points for the question it might get people thinking what is more important

The Superdome was a human sewer for 5 or 6 days post Katrina so any improvement is better than no improvement.

The poor have been transported all over the US - never to return again in some cases.

Im split down the middle with this question. Im from new orleans and we really need the economy boosted down here. A lot of businesses benefited from the reopening of the Dome. Not only was it about money but after going through such a horrible event we all needed something to boost our spirits.

i agree 100%, i think its a shame, that they rebuilt the dome when so many are still homeless and jobless, what a total waste!!!!!!!!!!! they used the excuse of pride and revenue, well you cant eat pride or live in the dome or work there, not everyone anyway. what a shame !!!!!!! it just proves that money is more important than people!!!!! its not always open, so the revenue isnt continuous, and not everyone profits. i think its WRONG!!!!!!! the money should of been used to rebuild homes, schools and businesses!!!!!

It re-vitalizes the city by bringing in out-of-town fans for the day. They spend a minimum of $150,000 for every home game. I live in Colorado and they estimate the Broncos bring $250,000 into the Denver economy for every home game. But other than that, I absolutely agree with you.

defeat is much more than a wrecked house. It is your moral, that feeling of hopelessness. Now, besides the fact that people should have Faith I still believe that something like this was needed to lift their spirits and let them decide they could go on, that things will eventually be alright.

I think this is a prime example of the reason America is failing it's people. Priorities are making money and not keeping money in the economy.

well if you do your research - all that money came from football. hardly any of it came from the government. all the football players gave $5000 to help restructure the city. think about it. a good stadium is going to do what to the city? thats right - bring people there. its going to be a tourist attraction and in the end they are making money off of it. and with that money what are they going to do ...
