If it is one that assigns itself a drive letter, it could possibly be trying to use a drive letter that something else is taking.

Right click on My Computer and go to Manage.
Under the Storage menu there is one called Disk Management. Click that. Look on the right side and see if your USB drive is showing up over there. If it is trying to access the same drive letter as something else you can change it by right clicking in any area of that drive and choosing Change drive letter and path to something that isn't taken.

If that isn't the case, maybe the drivers are loaded correctly for that MP3 player, and try to reinstall them. Good luck.

does your USB ports work?

Try another USB device
if USB not working go to device manager and see if they are registering a fault (yellow icon or red cross)
if red cross then USB is disabled just double click on the icon and click enable.
If yellow icon, right click and unistall or delete, then reboot, upon reboot XP will re-install original drivers.

You may also need to run windows update for the latest USB drivers, as your MP3 may require USB 2.0 and you may only have drivers for USB 1.1

if the mp3 came with a disc then u probably need to install this on your computer, if not do a search for new hardware on your computer when the mp3 is connected and turned on
