i did a little of both, actually. i gave my son around 1 formula bottle a day, maybe 2 breastmilk bottles a day, and nursed the rest of the time. he didn't like the formula as much, but at least he was used to it. it was great b/c if i had an "emergency" and couldn't get home in time to nurse him, he was already used to the taste of formula. or if the babysitter spilled the pumped milk (which happens often, sadly), then there was always formula for backup. later, when it was time to wean him from the breast, we just gradually increased his formula bottles and he never complained! :)

Usually, milk is pumped out if you're breastfeeding. You can do this ahead of time and leave it with the babysitter.

You can pump and freeze your breastmilk. Gerber makes breastmilk freezer/storage bags. Just don't microwave your breastmilk, it burns easily. it also stays good in the fridge for about 3 days after pumping. My husband loved to get the opportunity to feed our daughter a bottle every now and again. Good Luck!

I pumped when away from the baby (when I was working) and gave him EBM. He really didn't like the taste of formula.

If you're able to pump I would do that first. If you cannot pump enough, then its ok to use formula.

You can pump and freeze your milk if you can't always be there to breast feed. I'm not sure how long you can keep it in the freezer for, maybe talk to your midwife or have a look online?
