...keeping me up at night, when I should be sleeping.
Aside from getting drunk every night, what can I do?

uhhhh...okay, I never said that I get drunk. I NEVER get drunk...EVER. My meaning was, aside from the possibility of drinking myself into a stupor to sleep...jeeez!

And I don't drink every night either or every other night...or ANY night just so I can go to sleep.....I guess I should have very simply spelled that out...LOL

Try some melatonin (it has worked for me before).
I wouldn't suggest counting sheep-doesn't work for me. I lose track of the blasted things and have to start over and then I'm stressing over that nonsense.
Wait that's the answer - stressing over nonsense - worrying never solved or changed anything. One melatonin, maybe 3 sheep and "say to hell with the rest of the world, I'm tired" and tomorrow will be upon you soon enough - but you'll be ready for it!

What do ya think - worth a try?

Yeah I just broke that habit last month. Was using vodka to get to sleep. I started doing deep breathing exercises.1st link

I would make sure I got into bed 8 hours before time to get up. It took about 3 days before I was able to fall asleep. The 1st couple of days I felt like crap cause I was sleepy but by not drinking I felt real good. Just had the fast heartbeat feeling from being sleepy!

I didn't drink caffeine 8 hours before bed time and I drank chamomile tea 3 hours before bed and I took a cup to bed with me. Sleepy time tea also works well. You can find those in your local market or 2nd link "Celestial Seasonings"

I feel so much better now that I have started sleeping without the Vodka...lol I had a bad day yesterday but got back on track. I stayed up too late on the weekend and got messed up.

That is true about the antihistamines. Get you some Clartin or Benadryl if you don't have allergies. I had a nurse once tell me to give it too my child when she was keeping me up all night. Unless you are on meds. Then check with a doctorl

A great way to help relieve anxiety is cardiovascular exercise. It helps generate endorphins which will help reduce the anxiety and serves to fatigue you so that your body's need for sleep can take precedence. Yoga can be good at bedtime as well because it is physical, but with a meditative compotent that will relax you. Choose your yoga practice appropriate for the time of day. Also, if the anxiety and worry is relationship-related, deal with the problem head-on, don't just obsess about it. And if the issue generating the anxiety is something you have no control over, realize this is so and give it up. Good luck to you.

gosh, honey, I don't know. I know you need your rest. Whenever I am really bothered by something, I try to write down on a piece of paper what the problem is, and what the solutions are, and what I am going to do to get there. Somehow, just having a plan seems to help. I don't know if this will help you, but it's worth a shot.

Prayer works for me. If you use any kind of substance, it may be something addictive and you'll HAVE to have it for the rest of your life to be "normal." Seek counseling and see what they have to say. I believe people can THINK themselves well...it's mind over matter....if you don't want to worry, then don't, when you feel anxious, deep breath, count to 10, think of things that make you relax, happiness is a state of mind, if you have the choice, why not just choose to be happy??? Good luck, you're in my prayers.

Take it one step at a time. There's most likely nothing you can do about whatever it is you're anxious and worrying about so just decide you're not going to let it upset you. If you're the praying type then you should pray for some peace.

My daughter has the same problem. I didn't want her to have sleeping tablets, but we came across antihistamines as a solution. Taken occassionally they help her sleep.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil. 4

Let God do your worrying for you. He's up all night already. He wants you to rest.
