Pick up one thing at a time. Don't look at that whole mess, but what you can do with that stack over there.
Music is good. Audio books are really good. I listen to short stories on the BBC (www.bbc.uk.com) via computer while I clean. NPR (www.npr.org) also has good ones you can listen to.

Can I motivate you? Not unless you motivate me first. : ) Sometimes getting something new makes me want to get the whole room clean. I admit these computers are addictive and not good for us in most ways. You could find a way to make extra money and hire a maid service. That's my best idea but, then I feel like I have to clean before the maids come. Actually, I have a maid service come in once a month so the house never gets that bad. Okay, 1, 2, 3! Let's both of us get up and get to work! Ha,ha! Have a nice day.

I think the only thing that every truly works is knowing guests are coming. Especially your mother or in-laws. If you know someone who keeps a clean house that lives nearby, invite them over for movie night, or dinner, or to meet at your place then go somewhere. The instant you know someone is about to see your mess you should be motivated to get busy. My family is coming to visit soon and I'm totally freaking out because we moved here 3 months ago and, I swear, it looks like we moved in yesterday. I guess I should get busy, too. Good luck.

Put on some music, really loud and rock out to it while you clean. I love cleaning, but of course we all get in those moods where we can't get motivated. Or have your mom call and say she's coming over...that always gets my *** in gear to clean. Once I get started, I go nuts and clean everything...its just starting that's the problem.

Loud music is key, because you are moving around anyway to clean so you might as well dance a bit as well. Maybe dig up some albums you haven't heard in years. Plus think how good everything will look when you are done! I also try to tackle one room at a time so at least one part of the house isn't so disgusting. good luck!

pretend you have a hot date coming over and you would die if they saw your house the way it is....or watch some clean house episodes or something like that and maybe that will give you some new ideas or inspire you......or think about how much better you will feel when it is just done and out of the way, and you can enjoy being on the computer with a clear mind and no guilt....or my favourite trick....crank up some tunes and just dig in!!!

Get up all your butt and get to moving....If you have the motivation to ask this question and you have the motivation to type this question out, then you have the motivation to gett off your lazy butt and get to cleaning.

The best thing that works for me is to watch a movie like The Stepford Wives. I know it is stupid, but seeing those clean houses makes me want to clean mine. Also, no commercials. If I see a commercial, I want to sit down and channel surf.

I sure hope you get a lot of good answers that I can read cuz I am in the same boat. I can HEAR that laundry calling me, too. I tried doing a list of stuff before I turn the computer on. Yeah, like THAT worked. Good luck. Your luck just may be mine, too!

turn on some happy music and turn off the computer... eat a candy bar or something sweet for a quick burst of energy.
