It was dubbed over in English and was about a wee boy and his big dog. Did the group Belle and Sebastian get their name from this TV show?

No, but the children's TV shows that I do remember were 'Muffin the Mule' (piano was played by Annette Mills), 'Prudence kitten', 'Whirligig' (the compere was Humphrey Lestocqu, who in real life had been a WW2 fighter pilot. He had characters in the show called Mr Turnip and a cowboy called Hank whose weekly enemy was Mexican Pete.) 'Saturday Special' (this was the name of a fantasy ship which was sailing in search of the 'Unlikely Islands', one of the crew members was the glove puppet Sooty, one of his first outings, along with his creator Harry Corbett. This was long before Sweep and Soo teamed-up with him. I remember that the ship's cook played the accordion), and 'Billy Bean and his Funny Machine'.
Sorry, this has got nothing to do with Belle and Sebastian, who I've not heard of, it's just memories of my own childhood in the late 40's and early 50's.
Hope you find the answer you want.
