I have a 99 GMC Sierra, sometimes it wont start but then after a few minutes it will. They told me it is the passlock system cause the SECURITY light stays on while I drive. The system is around $600 to fix, does anyone know how to disengage it without spending alot of cash?

Before coughing up the 600 bucks, there is a bulletin from GM on your truck that applies to the pass-lock system. It involves soldering the wires to the terminals for the pass-lock system. The wires become loose and a poor connection is the result. The fix is to solder these terminals to there respective wires. I believe this is the condition you are encountering.

Stop back into the dealer and give them this bulletin number; #01-08-56-002A

sometimes the fix to your problem is a replacement PASSLOCK sensor which is located in your key cylinder casing. get a second opinion at a gm dealer. the replacement should not cost near that much!

Welcome to General Motors.

Your solution is to cough up the $600 and plan on spending more.
