I also have lost many pets. They are like family and when you lose one you suffer the loss as if a family member has died. My most recent loss was a male black cat named Zeff. It has been about 9 years ago now, but the heartache is still there. My husband and I had to move in with my parents and due to my dad having emphysema we couldn't have him there with us. I had my sister who lived down state from me take him in for me while we were getting back on our feet. I told her I would pay for all his expenses. He also had urinary tract disease and required specific cat food. One day, her boys were coming in and he darted out. They could never catch him. We even posted a reward in the local paper and stated he had a medical condition. He was sometimes seen around the neighborhood, but the sighting of him became less and less. I, of course, only feared the worse. He ended up dieing of his disease. Only one positive thought came to me at the time. Maybe someone read the reward in the paper and had taken him in already and was able to care for him. I miss him dearly. I have yet another black cat, my husband gave me, but it isn't him. I love my new cat which we call Junior cuz he acts a lot like Zeff did. I will always remember him.

It's awful losing a pet. I get very attached to dogs and their unconditional love so when they die, my heart is ripped to shreds. We've had some tragic pet loss stories which I'll spare you from but this past 1 1/2 years have been rough. We've experienced the loss of three family dogs starting in Jan of 2005. It's been rough. Very rough.
Our pets are our babies and friends, it's so difficult to lose that.
Be well.

Yes, I've lost some pets, and the last one, a beloved dog, hurt like hell. Also, when I was in grade school, my father killed my pet beagle during a drunken fit of rage, and it was extremely hard to get over that.

On Friday May 31, 2006 my dog died. He just lied down under the tree and died. He was a 10 year old, 48 pound, yellow lab. Still, a sad day. We came home from dropping off his body for cremation and held our 9 year old cat, grateful that we still had her in our lives.
We could not dwell on his death. The following night, April 1, my beautiful Siamese cat struggled down the stairs crying out to us. She could not use her hind legs. We hurried her to the hospital and they said that she had suffered an embolism. She would live, but in great pain and without the use of her hind legs.

Because animals give unconditional love and trust, when they die it hurts just like losing a friend. My Himalayan cat was a diabetic and I kept him going for 14 yrs by checking his blood sugar and giving him his insulin injections. When he died, it was a very sad day for all of us including our other cat. She seemed to go into a state of depression after his death. It took her almost 2 weeks to come out if it. She continued to live for 4 more years and finally died in her sleep at18. That was a sad day too.

I found that you can't dwell on these events and rather you should think about the good times and funny things they did to enrich your life.....and the unconditional love they gave you.

About a month or so ago we lost our much beloved cat, Mr. Peabody. He was a part of our family for almost 10 years, and he's still sadly missed.

just last year we lost our dog of 10 years. we got him when my husband and i first started dating. we were camping and when we came home to feed and water him he was no where to be found. later my husband went down to our pond and there he was. he must have went to get a drink and had a seizer. that was one of the hardest things i've ever had to deal with. it's so funny how a pet really is a part of our family.

I lost my 16-year-old Miniature Pinscher a few weeks ago. We had her cremated, so that if we move, she won't be buried in the back yard of a house full of strangers. When I die, she (and all the other pets) can be interred with me. I love my pets very much.

I lost my kitty, Aunt Jemima, and she is outside of my window under the tree. I miss her something terrible, she was like a mother to me, even if she was my aunt. I wish you were here to look out the window at her tombstone with me. She was a real friend.
